RUDI MAHALL

Rudi Mahalls has a distinctive sound on the bass clarinet, which makes him one of the world’s most in-demand jazz musicians from Germany. With Rudi Mahall the bass clarinet is far from the soft-sounding bass instrument. He can purr deep tones and also aggressive and high-sounding sirens. He has no difficulty to prevail with his instrument even without a microphone on a club stage. He plays with high virtuosity, blows the calrinet in all the ups and develops a pressure that challenges his bandmembers and the audience alike. And although melodically and harmonically he takes all freedoms, Rudi Mahall swings like hell.

He plays with groups such as „Der Rote Bereich“, „Die Enttäuschung“, „Fossile3“ or in a duo with Aki Takase. He also worked with musicians such as Christoph Thewes, Joachim Kühn, Günther Christmann, Frank Möbus, Paul Lovens, Sebastian Gramss, Alexander von Schlippenbach In 2011, he was also awarded the SWR Jazz Prize.

NICOLA L. HEIN

The guitarist, soundartist, philosopher and composer Nicola L. Hein is one of the busiest players on the German scene of improvised music. He plays the guitar with his hands and plectrum but also with a lot of different objects: screws, rulers, iron wool, violin bow, abrasive paper, magnets and many other objects which are part of his musical vocabulary. The result is his very own world of sounds, which is using the rich potential of the guitar as a creator of sounds. The manual creation is a very important character of this sound world, which never gets distorted by the use of electronic effects.

He has collaborated with musicians like Evan Parker, Phil Minton, John Russell, Paul Lytton, Frank Gratkwoski, Michael Vorfeld, Rudi Mahall, Tobias Delius, Liz Allbee, Ute Wassermann, John Butcher, Axel Dörner, Thomas Lehn,Tristan Honsinger, Sofia Jernberg, Audrey Chen, Peter Jacquemyn, Alfred Zimmerlin etc.
